When it comes to decorating for Christmas, you really can’t go wrong. If you go a little over or under people’s expectations, even the most humbug of guests will be forgiving because it’s Christmas and you tried. However, if you’re helpless when it comes to decorating, there are a few simple things that you can do to make your home feel more festive. You also don’t have to spend a lot of money to bring some Christmas cheer to your home; that money is supposed to go to buying presents! Here are a few tips that are simple and won’t break the bank.

Christmas Decorating Tips

Firstly, for every Christmas piece you put out remember to take away a regular accessory. You don’t want a hodgepodge of knickknacks and decor. Keep a Rubbermaid bin or cardboard box with you as you decorate, placing all the regular accessories into it. Then when you take your Christmas decorations down, you’ll have all your regular stuff together in one spot making it easy to put out again in January. Also, don’t feel like you have to fill every inch of your house will something. Sometimes all you need to do is add a little Christmas color, like adding a vase full of red plastic berry sprigs from the dollar store to the room.

Don’ forget to think about the way your home smells. If it smells like Christmas it’ll feel like Christmas. Scented candles are a great way to bring Christmas to your home. The names for these candles change from year to year. The best ones we could this year were called Milk and Cookies, Crushed Candy Cane, and Birchwood Pine. If you have children or animals at home, it might be better to use a scented plugin instead of a lit candle. Most candle shops carry the same scents for plugin as they do for candles.
