Most people leave their state during the winter for a warm vacation somewhere else. Colorado is not like most states. It may sound counter-intuitive at the first, but Colorado is the best place to spend your vacation during the winter. Most snow sports are available across the Rockies, which means there's always something to do. Skiing, snowboarding, breath-taking views and delightful hot springs, we have it all! Here are some of the most popular places to visit in Colorado for your next winter vacation.

Popular Vacation Spots in Colorado

Of all the ski towns in Colorado, Aspen is probably the most well known and for good reason. Aspen boasts four ski areas. They are all near each other and valid on the same lift ticket, so you can really take your pick. You can literally ski Aspen Mountain directly into downtown, which is full of shopping, dinning, and premiere entertainment venues. If you are planning a last minute trip and are worried about expensive lodgings, try finding a place to stay in the nearby town of Carbondale. Glenwood Springs is also only 45 minutes away and is the home of some of the best hot springs in the entire United States.

Another great place for winter sports is Steamboat Springs. Nestled seamlessly into the beautiful Yampa Valley, Steamboat is home to many skiing trails and resorts. Just like Aspen, Steamboat's downtown area has a lot to offer in the way of shopping, dinning, and entertainment. The Yampa Valley and surrounding area contain several geothermal hot springs. In fact, the city is named after a hot spring of the same name, located near the present-day library and the old train depot. The spring itself was so named because its bubbling sounded like a steamboat to early settlers.
